Ivana Palunko, Iva Pozniak and Matej Jelaviฤ‡ participated in the 16th Breaking the Surface (BtS) workshop, organized by FER, held in Biograd na Moru from September 29 to October 6, 2024.

Breaking the Surface is a summer workshop designed to foster interaction and knowledge exchange in the field of maritime robotics and its diverse applications. ๐Ÿค– Over the course of seven days, participants gained first-hand experience with the latest scientific research, technological advancements, and hands-on work with complex underwater systems.

โœจDuring the event, the head of LARIAT Ivana Palunko gave a presentation titled “๐‡๐ž๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐จ๐ ๐ž๐ง๐ž๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ข-๐€๐ ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐’๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐š๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Œ๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐„๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ,” focusing on how human activities are increasingly harming oceans. Ivana’s presentation showcased advanced technologies in machine learning and robotics as powerful tools to tackle these environmental challenges. By integrating state-of-the-art systems, we can develop innovative solutions for monitoring and preserving our marine ecosystems more effectively.

The core workshop, led by Stefan, Shahab Heshmati-Alamdari, and Jan Brรผdigam, focused on robotic marine litter collection, while Matej Jelaviฤ‡ and Iva, highlighted recycling practices. They showcased how to transform plastic bottles into 3D-printed pendants and create artistic bracelets from single-use plastic items using the traditional kumihimo braiding technique. โ™ป๏ธโœจ
